I've been told that too much protein can be bad for your kidneys. However, keto is known to lower blood sugar and blood pressure, and those effects are beneficial to your kidneys. I've got FSGS, and have been on keto since May 1st. My GFR has gone up since I started, my serum creatinine is down, but my proteinuria is up.

From my understanding, your body goes into ketosis which means youre pretty much burning fat rather than carbs.
